The Impact of Nursing Informatics on Patient Outcomes and Patient Care Efficiencies

Nursing informatics specialists are key people transforming healthcare by integrating health technologies. Their knowledge of information systems and nursing enables them to design and monitor systems, train nurses, ensure HIPAA regulations are followed, and evaluate system effectiveness in meeting intended objectives. With the evolving healthcare and technological landscapes, having an organization-wide EPIC electronic system would help improve patient health outcomes and streamline operations. The system will help support clinical decision-making and enhance communication.

Project Description

The project is to implement the EPIC system by prompting an organization-wide migration from manual operations. The system will be implemented in the nursing department within three months and evaluated before hospital-wide changes using the PDSA model. The system integrates different clinical functions to support clinical decisions, reduce medical errors, reduce patient waiting times, document and record all procedures, and connect other professionals within and outside the hospital. The nurse informatics specialist should understand the hospital's needs and work with the IT team to design and implement an effective system. Leaders should first inform all the staff and gather their opinions and concerns. They should communicate the importance of embracing the change to elicit their support. The experts are to train nurses and offer support as they monitor the system's operations. The PDSA model should allow the team to plan and implement the change first while collecting data to assess its effectiveness. The final step of making organization-wide changes will rely on the efficacy and adjustments made to the system. How well it works in the nursing department will determine whether it will help other departments.

Stakeholders Impacted

The project will profoundly impact patients who are the direct care recipients. They will experience better services due to streamlined activities and have reduced waiting times. Care providers will rely on adequate data they access from the system when making clinical decisions. Their health will also improve due to the elimination of medical errors. Second, nurses should have reduced work burdens due to the simplification of specific tasks. Automating the documentation process makes their work easier. Sutton and Pincock (2020) state that reduced medical errors and easy access to data sources further build their confidence. Improved patient outcomes will eventually reduce the burden of caring for patients. Third, medical staff will have enhanced collaboration through information exchange through the system. Increased efficiency in operations will boost resource allocation, enabling the hospital management to plan and budget effectively. Also, nursing informatics will be affected since they will oversee the project implementation and monitor its effectiveness. They include nurse informatics specialists and the IT department.

Patient Outcomes and Care Efficiencies

Patient outcomes will improve due to reduced medical errors. Electronic health records (EHRs) will allow clinicians to make informed decisions based on available and necessary data. Enhanced collaboration through data sharing increases accountability and eliminates individual decision-making that may result in medical errors (Shayganmehr et al., 2022). Second, patients will experience reduced waiting times due to streamlined operations. Reduced delays and hastened services will allow patients to receive timely care. Therefore, their experiences will be enhanced (Shayganmehr et al., 2022). Third, Sutton and Pincock (2020) explain that there will be care efficiencies from reduced paperwork. Unnecessary processes will be eliminated by automation of clinical functions and data sharing. Therefore, clinicians will dedicate more attention and time to patient care than non-clinical functions. Fourth, the ease of care access reduces the time they have to wait for and get relevant and essential clinical data. Fifth, making clinical decisions is improved further through collaboration with different professionals. In other words, EHRs reduce time wastage.

Technologies Required

The first technology would be the electronic health record software designed based on the hospital's needs and operating capacity. A robust system like EPIC would strengthen clinical functions and enhance data storage and sharing. Its safety should help maintain data integrity and patient privacy (Sutton & Pincock, 2020). The second technology would be barcoding and medication administration software to help automate medication management processes. Such a system will help integrate medication management with other clinical functions to reduce medical errors. Clinicians will know how, what, and when to administer to patients. The third technology is medical devices that allow clinicians to access and share data in the system at the point of care. For instance, computers should help nurses input vital signs data for individual patients at the triage level for physicians to view when treating patients. The fourth technology is telehealth, which supports virtual patient care and data input into the system. For instance, Zoom should record data from remote monitoring to feed into the system. Finally, there should be data analytic tools that allow clinicians to make informed decisions when caring for patients. For instance, clinicians should know what patients are suffering from and get relevant data to support their decision-making.

Project Team

The successful implementation of the project requires a dedicated and informed team. A nurse leader should be the project manager because they know patients' needs and provide direct patient care. Second, a nurse informatics specialist should be present to oversee the project's implementation of the system while training staff, providing support, and monitoring the program's effectiveness. The expert should work alongside the nurse leader to oversee the project's implementation. The healthcare staff are also crucial people and may include nurses, lab technicians, doctors, and other professionals. However, the targeted professionals would be nurses before the hospital makes system-wide changes. IT specialists should help provide continuous support to the staff in implementing the system. They should help maintain the system to safeguard data and patient privacy.

Incorporating Nurse Informatics

Nurse informatics is vital for the project. They bridge the gap between nurses and technology. They conduct a needs assessment to identify care gaps in current workflows for improvements. They also determine the specific needs of nurses. Their knowledge of IT would help them design and select the best systems to align with the nursing requirements (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2021). They would further work closely with the IT team and clinicians to design a suitable workflow and integrate different functions while paying attention to existing HIPAA regulations. Also, they constantly evaluate the system's usability and make adjustments to improve it as the staff continues implementing it. They train nurses to ensure their proficiency and strive for continuous improvement (McGonigle & Mastrian, 2021). While using the PDSA cycle, constant improvement should help strengthen the system before making organization-wide changes. Leveraging help from nurse informatics specialists ensures that technological changes align with nursing needs to improve patient outcomes. The project's success will also depend on other factors like collaboration and support from the relevant stakeholders. Therefore, the team should use a shared decision-making model to leverage input from different people and invite their support to minimize resistance.

Now more than ever, music has become a democratic tool that has been used for political, cultural, and social equality. It is evident that music is changing as society changes, an indicator that the tool is in tandem with democracy.

A Gallup poll of 1236 adults showed that 12% of the respondents believe that it is bad luck to walk under a ladder. Consider the probability that among 30 randomly selected people from the 1236 who were polled, there are at least 2 who have that belief. Given that the subjects surveyed were selected without replacement, the events are not independent. Can the probability be found by using the binomial probability formula? Why or why not?

Pirated Software

Pirated software is the use of software that allows others to copy, distribute, and operate other programs. Pirated software is an ethical issue due to digital theft and denying another individual who has rightfully designed a life out of software development (Cascavilla et al., 2021). The consequences of using pirated software are that other software developers have been led to legal risks owing to the respective demands of their users. This paper focuses on determining how pirated software is an ethical issue when marketing connected devices.

Germany

Germany is one of the largest countries in Europe by land mass; this has largely contributed to its popularity, making it one of the most known countries of the Nordic region.  Besides being populous, the country enjoys the largest economy in Europe, which is mainly driven by three sectors: agriculture, service, and industry sectors. The country's large portion of the population is middle-income and is largely contributed by the service, industry, and agriculture sectors. Ever since its unification in the 20th century, the country has seen numerous politically motivated events that have seen the country be plunged into the First and Second World Wars, with the latter leaving the country divided between two political ideologies. The focus of this paper is to determine how culture, legislation, economic and political systems have impacted the conduction of business in the country.

The manager should not be allowed to disclose the information of a tenant as the latter has a reasonable expectation of privacy unless the information is relevant in regard to the safety of other tenants (Porro, 2019). Thus, the manager should ensure that other tenants follow through with the directive and not have their indifferences determine their tenancy. In summation, the manager should withhold the information to prevent others from having access to it and should accord the new applicant as a potential tenant who has no bearing in regard to political indifferences that have caused a rift between the two parties.

A multicultural workplace has become a trend rather than an exception in many organizations. In the worldwide community where every organization strives to contribute, and this stage of profound globalization is unfolding. Organizations that do not adapt to diversity in its workplace will have difficulty staying competitive (Tamn et al., 2019). Over the past two decades, companies have appreciated employee diversity as crucial to economic sustainability (Shah et al., 2021). Diversity at the workspace is of priceless value, because it coalesces numerous latent capabilities and experiences, ultimately optimizing efficiency and effectiveness of the whole organization (Inegbedion and his colleagues, 2020).
